It’s one thing for me to throw my own stuff in a suitcase and head out the door on an adventure. It’s a totally different thing when I’ve got the kids in tow! But a little planning can make traveling with little people just as light!

It’s no secret that I love to travel. There is something magical about seeing all the varieties of people and places that exist on this planet we inhabit. That’s why I’m not about to sit at home waiting for my little ones to be “old enough” to travel. Kids are portable! And there are things you can do to make traveling with kids a little lighter. Whether you spend hours in the kitchen or just a few minutes, taking a bit of time to streamline the space will maximize the time you spend there… and possibly make your time there a little lighter!
I spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen. And I don’t want to spend that time digging through clutter or searching for something that I know must be in there somewhere… I’ve got some systems in place that have helped me streamline all things meal-related and it’s made a huge difference! It’s been an interesting week here in Northern California. I’m writing this post in between power outages. We just went through 48 hours of no power and we’re waiting for the power to be shut down again.
The power company has shut down our power. Don’t get me started on the “why”… it’s not pretty. Suffice it to say that the power company has some work to do. Continue reading “When the Lights Go Out”
A summer without a plan is my worst nightmare! And yet, an over-planned summer is just as bad. Here’s how I’m planning (hopefully!) to find that blessed middle ground for a light summer!
It’s almost here! My favorite season of the year, when I finally get warm! I love the long days full of light. I love the warm days full of shorts and tees. I love the opportunities for adventure! And if you know me by now… I love the summer plan! Continue reading “This Summer’s “Light” Plan”
I can feel it. It’s like an itch I’m going to have to scratch. It’s that time of the year. When I grab my boxes and do a total house de-clutter!
Of course, my boys and I managed to catch some early spring virus that has had us (well, me) mostly just lying around listening to the spring rain and watching the first blossoms pop out in our back yard. I love spring. I love the renewal of life. And once I kick this virus, I’m going to feel a little of that spring renewal myself! Continue reading “Lighten Up for Spring – It’s Time Again!”
I realize that not everyone has a playroom. Although, it could be argued that maybe everyone should, regardless of whether or not you have children. Either way, our playroom needed some lightening up!
When we were looking to buy a home, one of my must-have items was a room we could use as a playroom. I’m a big supporter of keeping the bedrooms calm and quiet and mostly for sleep. So that meant I needed to have the boys’ toys live somewhere else.

As spring is quickly sliding toward summer, I am finishing up my home lightening. Today I tackled the linen closet.
When I first saw the linen closet in our newly-purchased home, my first thought was, “Wow. That’s the skinniest door I’ve ever seen. I hope the closet is a bit bigger.” And it is. But only a little bit.

I’ve pulled everything out of the bathroom drawers and cupboards in an effort to lighten them up!
Isn’t amazing how much stuff ends up in the bathroom? Stuff in the forms of bottles, tubes, cans, jars… truly an amazing assortment of dispensers. And today I unceremoniously pulled everything out of my bathroom cupboards and drawers to see where I could lighten them up. Continue reading “Lighten Up for Spring – The Bathrooms”
Time to tackle the bedrooms! It’s time to lighten up my wardrobe, for sure.
My bedroom is my sanctuary. It’s the place where I rest. I need this space to be clean and neat in order to truly rest. So I’m very protective of this space. Continue reading “Lighten Up for Spring – The Bedrooms”
You know that closet… or place… where everything lands when you come in the door? I took a look at mine today to make sure it only contains what I intend for it to contain.
I’m easing myself back into the de-cluttering. After a week with a very sick little boy, a week of travel, and a week of house guests, I’m finally ready to jump back into the challenge… by heading to the coat closet.
