If you walk down the cleaning products aisle of any store, you will find a cleaner for everything! With multiple brands and multiple fragrances and multiple uses. It’s a recipe for cleaning product overwhelm! But there is a simple way to lighten up your cleaning products.

I want my house to be clean. Make no mistake about that. The funny thing about what our society has done with household cleaning products, is that it’s supposedly helped us “clean” our homes, but in many cases it has us “dirty” up our homes with chemicals and substances that aren’t very good for our bodies. It happens every night. We gather at the table and eat dinner. There may be days when it resembles an episode of Wild Planet, but other days, it’s a marvelous opportunity to connect with each other and spend time together.
The only dinner I’ve ever taken a picture of seems to be Thanksgiving!
Growing up, dinnertime was an important part of my family’s day. All seven of us tucked in around our trestle table which filled the entire dining area. Our conversations were everything from intellectually stimulating, to uproariously funny! I have fond feelings about those times with my family. And when I had a family of my own, I knew I wanted that kind of dinnertime. Continue reading “Keeping Dinnertime Light”
Whether you spend hours in the kitchen or just a few minutes, taking a bit of time to streamline the space will maximize the time you spend there… and possibly make your time there a little lighter!
I spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen. And I don’t want to spend that time digging through clutter or searching for something that I know must be in there somewhere… I’ve got some systems in place that have helped me streamline all things meal-related and it’s made a huge difference! It’s been an interesting week here in Northern California. I’m writing this post in between power outages. We just went through 48 hours of no power and we’re waiting for the power to be shut down again.
The power company has shut down our power. Don’t get me started on the “why”… it’s not pretty. Suffice it to say that the power company has some work to do. Continue reading “When the Lights Go Out”
Lightening up my wardrobe turned out to be easier than I thought. Once I had a clear picture of what colors and styles best fit me, I just eliminated everything else!
I’ve been dreaming of a capsule wardrobe since I heard about the concept several years ago. For my minimalist soul, it seemed like a perfect match for me. I’ve been doing a little here and a little there and while I’m not at a “capsule wardrobe” per se, I’ve definitely lightened up my closet. Continue reading “A Lighter Wardrobe”
A summer without a plan is my worst nightmare! And yet, an over-planned summer is just as bad. Here’s how I’m planning (hopefully!) to find that blessed middle ground for a light summer!
It’s almost here! My favorite season of the year, when I finally get warm! I love the long days full of light. I love the warm days full of shorts and tees. I love the opportunities for adventure! And if you know me by now… I love the summer plan! Continue reading “This Summer’s “Light” Plan”
I can feel it. It’s like an itch I’m going to have to scratch. It’s that time of the year. When I grab my boxes and do a total house de-clutter!
Of course, my boys and I managed to catch some early spring virus that has had us (well, me) mostly just lying around listening to the spring rain and watching the first blossoms pop out in our back yard. I love spring. I love the renewal of life. And once I kick this virus, I’m going to feel a little of that spring renewal myself! Continue reading “Lighten Up for Spring – It’s Time Again!”
My favorite question is, “Why?” I guess I have that in common with every 3 year old. But it’s one of the most illuminating questions I know. And once again, it has shed light on something important in my life.
It was 7:30 at night and I had worked my way down a whole list of to-dos that day. I was in my car, running three more errands before I called it quits for the night. But rather than feeling pleasantly accomplished I was feeling rather unimpressed with myself.

The seasons come and go, as we turn round and round on this beautiful planet of ours. Lots of things come and go and I’m thoughtful today of both the weight and the lightness of change.
I may have been quiet on my blog this summer, but summer was not a quiet season. The very reason that I decided to take a break from blogging was because I wanted to be deliberate with the time I was spending with the 4 year olds. Not to mention, it takes a ridiculous amount of mental and physical energy to be with them for 12 waking hours a day and I knew I wasn’t going to have much left over for anything else.

I realize that not everyone has a playroom. Although, it could be argued that maybe everyone should, regardless of whether or not you have children. Either way, our playroom needed some lightening up!
When we were looking to buy a home, one of my must-have items was a room we could use as a playroom. I’m a big supporter of keeping the bedrooms calm and quiet and mostly for sleep. So that meant I needed to have the boys’ toys live somewhere else.
