Whether you spend hours in the kitchen or just a few minutes, taking a bit of time to streamline the space will maximize the time you spend there… and possibly make your time there a little lighter!
I spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen. And I don’t want to spend that time digging through clutter or searching for something that I know must be in there somewhere… I’ve got some systems in place that have helped me streamline all things meal-related and it’s made a huge difference! It’s been an interesting week here in Northern California. I’m writing this post in between power outages. We just went through 48 hours of no power and we’re waiting for the power to be shut down again.
The power company has shut down our power. Don’t get me started on the “why”… it’s not pretty. Suffice it to say that the power company has some work to do. Continue reading “When the Lights Go Out”
Lightening up my wardrobe turned out to be easier than I thought. Once I had a clear picture of what colors and styles best fit me, I just eliminated everything else!
I’ve been dreaming of a capsule wardrobe since I heard about the concept several years ago. For my minimalist soul, it seemed like a perfect match for me. I’ve been doing a little here and a little there and while I’m not at a “capsule wardrobe” per se, I’ve definitely lightened up my closet. Continue reading “A Lighter Wardrobe”
I can feel it. It’s like an itch I’m going to have to scratch. It’s that time of the year. When I grab my boxes and do a total house de-clutter!
Of course, my boys and I managed to catch some early spring virus that has had us (well, me) mostly just lying around listening to the spring rain and watching the first blossoms pop out in our back yard. I love spring. I love the renewal of life. And once I kick this virus, I’m going to feel a little of that spring renewal myself! Continue reading “Lighten Up for Spring – It’s Time Again!”
While there is definitely something incredibly romantic about having a stack of cards and letters from your loved one all tied up in a ribbon… I wondered if there was a lighter way to keep these love notes.
Last year, as I stood in the greeting card isle of the store, amazed at how much the cost of cards was going up, I had an idea.

I grew up on a cul-de-sac. There were 10 houses and more kids than you could shake a stick at. And there was plenty of stick-shaking! In many ways it was an idyllic neighborhood to grow up in. That street is filled with so many wonderful memories. One of the brightest was the annual block party.
I don’t know exactly what year it started. All I know was I was knee-high to a grasshopper when I remember the first one. But somehow, a tradition was started where every year on the 4th of July, all the neighbors on our cul-de-sac came out to the middle of the street and had a grand ol’ block party.

I realize that not everyone has a playroom. Although, it could be argued that maybe everyone should, regardless of whether or not you have children. Either way, our playroom needed some lightening up!
When we were looking to buy a home, one of my must-have items was a room we could use as a playroom. I’m a big supporter of keeping the bedrooms calm and quiet and mostly for sleep. So that meant I needed to have the boys’ toys live somewhere else.

As spring is quickly sliding toward summer, I am finishing up my home lightening. Today I tackled the linen closet.
When I first saw the linen closet in our newly-purchased home, my first thought was, “Wow. That’s the skinniest door I’ve ever seen. I hope the closet is a bit bigger.” And it is. But only a little bit.

This is one of those rooms that has as many different uses as the different families who live in them.
For most of my adult life the Family Room was also the Play Room. Wait. That’s still true. Okay, sort of. When we chose our new home, one of my top requests was that we find a house that had a room we could officially designate as the Play Room. And we did. Springtime is planting time around here! The sun is out and I am too, putting our top five favorite plants in the garden.
This morning’s harvest.
I grew up in a garden. Wait, that sounds weird. How about, I grew up spending much of my childhood in a garden. That’s better. Continue reading “Spring Garden Light”
