We all have something inside of us that, when shared, can send light out into the world. The gifts and talents that you have were not meant to stay shut inside. Let them shine.
I’m feeling poetic today. One of my most favorite poems has been going round and round in my head for the last week and I took it as a sign that it would be good to share it here.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
Isn’t that inspiring? When I found this poem about 10 years ago, I was a single mom trying to find my light again. And trying to find the courage to let my light shine. These words spoke to my very soul. And I’ve kept them where I can reference them often to remind me to allow my little personal packet of gifts to shine.
Today I had the sweet opportunity to attend a book signing for my brother and sister-in-law (soul-sister). They wrote/illustrated their first children’s picture book together and let me tell you, that book SHINES! (You can see it here.) And as I’ve seen them let their lights shine out to the world, I am encouraged to let my light shine too.
Can I remind you to let your light shine as well? Whatever your light is. Whatever your gifts are that bless the world around you. Uncover them. Kindle them. Blow on those embers until they glow, and glitter, and shine!
We are all meant to shine! How do you shine?
